Frequently asked questions

How much is the entry fee? It costs only £10 per person to enter.

What happens if I can’t raise the suggested minimum sponsorship of £100? Although we want you to raise as much as possible, it is only a suggested sponsorship level.  We won’t mind if you don’t raise the full amount, though we are quite sure that some of you will blitz your fundraising and raise well over our suggested level.

Can you help me with any advice on raising as much money as possible? Once you have registered, we will send you a Walk of Life fundraising pack full of lots of fab fundraising hints and tips.  We will be on the end of the phone to help you with any queries that you may have.

Is the Walk of Life women only? Definitely not!  We have lots of men take part each year.

If I don’t want to take part in the event can I help instead? Of course, please give us a call to arrange how you can best support the team on the day!

Are there any age restrictions? The full 21 mile walk is restricted to walkers’ age 15 years and over.  All walkers between the ages of 15 and 17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult and their parent/guardian will need to complete the parental consent form before they are allowed on the walk.

Children between the age of 11 and 14 can participate in either the morning or the afternoon walk.  They must be accompanied by a responsible adult and their parent / guardian will need to complete the parental consent form before they will be allowed on the walk.

Can I form a team for the walk? Absolutely!  You could take part with lots of your colleagues, or perhaps you have a close group of friends that would like to walk together.

How far is the walk? All mileage is approximate.  The full walk from Devizes to Bath is 21 miles.  The morning section from Devizes to Bradford-On-Avon is 12 miles.  The afternoon section from Bradford-On-Avon to Bath is 9 miles.

Do I need to train? It does not matter if you are an experienced walker or have never done anything like this before as long as you put in the training. It is designed to be challenging but achievable. This is a very useful beginners training plan, alternatively have a look at some top training hints and tips here.

How long is the walk expected to take? It really depends on your fitness levels.  From our four years’ experience, some people complete the full 21 miles by 3pm, others don’t finish until 6pm.

Will my friends and family be able to come and cheer me over the finish line? Yes of course – the more the merrier!  If you take part in the full 21 mile walk, the finish line is in Sydney Gardens in Bath.

Will you help me to inform the press in my area about my fundraising efforts? Yes.  Just get in touch and we can give you all the contact information you will need to speak to your local media.  We can even help you to write a press release about why you have chosen to support the Walk of Life.

When and where does the walk start? We meet at the Devizes Wharf from 8am.  All walkers need to have arrived at 8.30am latest to sign in and be ready for the health and safety briefing.

The afternoon section of the walk leaves from Bradford-On-Avon at approximately 1pm.

How will I get home at the end of the walk? We would suggest that you ask a friend or family member to come and collect you – and of course cheer you over the finishing line at the same time!  If you need advice on train and bus schedules, just give us a call and we’ll help you find all the information you need.

Can I bring my dog? Dogs must be under the control of their owner and kept on a lead at all times.

Am I required to have health insurance? We strongly recommend personal health insurance for each participant. Our medical team can only provide basic first aid services. All walkers must complete a health and safety form before they will be allowed on the walk.
