Santander’s Bath Branch has taken on ‘The Brownsword Challenge’ for The Royal United Hospital’s (RUH) charity The Forever Friends Appeal. The banks’ branch staff have chosen the Appeal as their Charity of the Year and is fundraising for the Appeal’s campaign to help build a new RNHRD and Therapies Centre at the RUH.  This Brownsword match funding challenge means every pound raised by the bank will be matched by The Brownsword Charitable Foundation.

As well as supporting two National charities, each Santander branch is also given the opportunity to support one charity, local to their community.  A staff vote from the Bath-based team chose The Forever Friends Appeal and they are therefore busy planning fundraising for the year ahead.  The team are planning to organise a big event each quarter, along with smaller fundraising activities throughout the year. They have already lined up a Quiz night in the Santander Bath branch in May, along with a staff cycle ride, riding the distance of Bath to Santander in Spain on an exercise bike in July!

David Hawkins, Branch Director at Santander’s Bath Branch said:  “The team and I are so excited at the prospect of making a contribution to such a worthwhile cause,  our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and hope to have some fun over the coming year raising as much money as we can. It’s great because any funds we do raise will be matched by Santander.”

The Appeals’ new RNHRD and Therapies Centre Campaign aims to raise over £2 million to support the building of a new, state-of-the-art Centre at the RUH. Each year over 70,000 patients are treated by the RNHRD and Therapies team. This purpose-built facility will provide treatment, care and education for patients to recover from episodes of illness or injury, or to manage their long-term condition. The new Centre will ensure patients receive the best possible treatment and care in a building which is fit for purpose.  It will include state-of-the-art equipment, a therapeutic environment and a brand new hydrotherapy pool.

The Brownsword Charitable Foundation have set a ‘Match Funding Challenge’ to help achieve the Campaign target.  ‘The Brownsword Challenge’ will match £1million worth of donations from the public and other donors, to help raise the £2million for the new Centre.

Corporate Officer for The Forever Friends Appeal, Jo Common comments: “We are absolutely thrilled that the Santander Bath branch has chosen us as their charity of the year, and are so pleased to have their support in helping us to fundraise for the new RNHRD and Therapies Centre. The services provided will make a huge difference to the thousands of patients who are treated each year. We’re really looking forward to working with, and getting to know the team over the year ahead!”
