Ted cruises around in style in his brand new Vauxhall

Supporting The Forever Friends Appeal at the RUH, Platinum Vauxhall dealership based in Trowbridge, are helping promote the charity’s annual fundraising day Ted’s Big Day Out! by loaning the Appeal a pristine white Vauxhall Meriva.

As Ted’s Big Day Out! on Friday 19th October 2012 fast approaches, Ted’s Vauxhall Meriva, affectionately named by the Appeal team as “Ted’s Truck”, will be out and about touring the streets ofBath, North East Somerset and Wiltshire. Ted’s Truck will help encourage schools, nurseries, community groups, businesses and individuals to participate and take their teddy bears on an adventure for the day. Whether it be a trip to school, work, or the shops, anyone can support the Appeal by donating just £1.

The Platinum Motor Group has been dedicated in their collaboration with The Forever Friends Appeal for many years, and much of the awareness and success of the day can be attributed to their group of dealerships. This year Platinum Vauxhall will be providing ‘Teds Truck’. Sales Manager, James Gray comments: “I am really pleased to be involved in supporting The Forever Friends Appeal by giving them the use of a Vauxhall Meriva from Platinum Vauxhall. I know they will put it to good use in increasing awareness of the fundraising they are doing in a bid to improve facilities for cancer patients at Bath’s RUH.”

‘Fluorescent Friday’ is the theme of this year’s Ted’s Big Day Out!, kindly sponsored by Mogers Solicitors. Not only can you bring your teddies out for the day, but you can also sport the fluorescent garments lurking in your wardrobes. Ted will be doing the same, and his new Vauxhall has also been decked out in brightly coloured vehicle graphics. The aim of this is to capture the attention of motorists and pedestrians, and to advertise Ted’s Big Day Out! along with the Appeal’s Cancer Care Campaign. Keep your eyes peeled for a luminous car in your area.

Corporate Officer for the Appeal, Kate Bruhl, comments: “I am delighted that the Platinum Motor Group have chosen to continue their support by donating Ted’s Truck for yet again another year! Without their support, we really wouldn’t be able to promote this annual fundraising day and make it a true success at raising money for the RUH.”

Funds raised on Ted’s Big Day Out! will greatly contribute to the recently launched RUH Cancer Care Campaign which aims to raise £5 million towards the construction of a ground breaking Cancer Centre. The clinical skills offered by the medical team at the RUH are exceptional; however, the poor quality 1940’s single story buildings are not ideal and do not enable the clinicians to provide a positive environment necessary to support the healing process.  The RUH treats over 2000 new cancer patients every year, making this project crucial. While the NHS are funding 75% of the building work, The Forever Friends Appeal has the task of raising the remaining £5 million over the next 4 years.

Don’t forget to give Ted a wave if you see him driving about! If you would like to register for Ted’s Big Day Out! and receive your Fluorescent Friday fundraising pack, visit the Ted’s Big Day Out! website  www.tedsbigdayout.co.uk to register online or give Ted a ring on 01225 825825.

Box Rocks’ Rocky Horror Festival

The Queens Head pub in Box is rocking out for their 19th Anniversary charity festival- Box Rocks. Featuring a special Rocky Horror Show, the event is on 27th August- Bank Holiday Monday. Adults pay £3 and children £1.50 on the door. All entry fees will be donated to The Forever Friends Appeal’s Cancer Care Campaign- raising £5 million towards a new pioneering Cancer Centre.

This will be the 10th year that Box Rocks has supported The Forever Friends Appeal. Zoe Tainton, Community Fundraiser says: “It is absolutely fantastic that Box Rocks have been so kind to support us for 10 years running! They have fundraised well-over £15,000 for The Forever Friends Appeal and we are utterly grateful for their help. We are very proud to say they have been our Community Partners throughout our last Campaign for our premature babies, raising thousands of pounds towards The Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care which opened in July 2011. We are now delighted they have come on board with our Cancer Care Campaign. Appeal staff will be there rocking out and collecting funds for a great cause!”

Last year’s event was the biggest so far- raising a very impressive £3,117.27 for the RUH’s Cancer Care Campaign. “In the spirit of the Olympics, we are hoping this year will be a record breaker!” Miss Tainton continues.

The RUH is planning to build a pioneering Cancer Centre which builds on the holistic approach taken with the Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care and balances the clinical expertise of the hospital with the provision of a nurturing and therapeutic environment.

The Appeal is raising a minimum of £5m over the next 4 years towards the cost of the £20.5m new Cancer Centre at the RUH, and which is due to be completed by around 2017.

Annual events like Box Rocks make a significant difference to the fundraising target. Not only does the fundraiser benefit the charity but for the event organisers, it means their dedication, hard work and generosity will be recognised for generations to come.

Event organiser, Dean Creighton comments: “This year is a big one- we have a lot to celebrate! It’s our 19th year running the show, 10 years ago we did our first Rocky Horror Show at Box Rocks and it’s our 10th year supporting The Forever Friends Appeal- because they’re so good at their job! We are very pleased to be supporting the RUH’s Cancer Care Campaign as everybody knows somebody affected by cancer and it’s close to many of our hearts. We are happy to help all the staff, patients and families visiting the RUH.”

“Dare to dress up in Rocky Horror costumes for the grand finale of the Rocky Horror Show songs being performed at 9pm- it’s going to be a great night!”

There are over 30 volunteers involved with setting up the festival and the bands are all donating their time to play. These include; Sound of the Sirens, Port Erin, Turn Pike Glow and many more…

There will be a live internet link which will allow viewers to watch the festival from their own computers at home, if they are unable to make it. You can also donate online and make this year it’s biggest yet!
