A group of five committed volunteers from Chippenham, Melksham and Calne have raised an incredible £55,000 for the planned Dyson Cancer Centre at the Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath.

They call themselves the Your Local RUH Cancer Care Fundraising Group and they started fundraising for The Forever Friends Appeal’s RUH Cancer Care campaign in 2012.

Bev Viveash, chairperson of the Your Local RUH Fundraising Group said:

“We are so pleased to have reached this fantastic amount. I got involved with the fundraising with my daughter while she was receiving treatment for her cancer at the RUH. Before she passed away she encouraged me to continue fundraising for the new Cancer Centre for future patients and their families.

“It has been a privilege to fundraise and volunteer for my local hospital and I enjoy getting involved with the charity’s events. Over the past six years, we have organised book and cake sales, quiz nights, treasure hunts and coffee mornings to raise money for a cause that is close to our hearts.

“We meet once a month in the Angel Hotel in Chippenham and new members are welcome to join us. Over the years, I have got to know some really lovely people and it’s a great way to spend time doing something positive for a really important cause.”

Lauren Noble, Senior Community Fundraiser, The Forever Friends Appeal said:

“We are so grateful for their support and commitment to our cancer campaign. They all have their individual reasons for giving back to the RUH and their passion has shone through their wonderful fundraising events. On behalf of the Appeal, I’d like to thank them all, for their dedication and continuing support for our RUH Cancer Care campaign.”

Fundraising in the fight against cancer never stops, and as The Forever Friends Appeal heads towards its 20th year of fundraising, it continues the campaign to support this amazing project to achieve the very best care, treatment and quality of environment for patients and their families.

Once the new RNHRD and Therapies Centre is open, treating patients, the old therapies buildings will be cleared to make way for the construction of the new Dyson Cancer Centre.
