Join us for a film under the stars at the annual Movie by Moonlight
Some things are most definitely better outdoors: swimming pools, barbecues, games of cricket. Cinemas, Bath has decided, firmly belong to that list – and while we might not do American style drive-ins, sitting out in the sun (or pretending the rain isn’t that bad) has become a staple of summer in the city for many years.
In 2020, The Forever Friends Appeal will once again be hosting it’s annual film screening (Film to be confirmed) with the magic of the cinema brought to you by Filmair Mobile Cinema Services.
About Movie by Moonlight
Times: The film will start at approximately 8.15pm (or when it gets dark). Gates are open from 5.30pm. The event will finish when the film does.
*Donations (NO TICKET NEEDED): Please note this is a charity event. Whilst you do not need a ticket and entry is free, a donation is very much appreciated (suggested £5 per person – much less than the cinema!). 100% of funds raised on the night will go towards supporting patients and families cared for by the Royal United Hospitals Bath. There will be a bucket collection operating throughout the evening, staffed by our wonderful volunteers.
Security: There will be security at this event. Bag searches and other security measures will be conducted at the gates and throughout the event, to ensure everyone has a good time. Thank you in advance for your patience. Glass bottles, BBQ’s, and sharp knives (for those bringing picnics!) and other items deemed dangerous WILL NOT be allowed onto site, neither will personal stereos or other equipment to amplify music.
Seating: The event is located in a park, on the grass – we recommend bringing something to sit on! There will be an area closest to the screen reserved for blankets only. Guests bringing chairs are kindly asked to seat themselves behind this section.
Our site will be based in the Middle Common of the beautiful Royal Victoria Park, just below the Botanical Gardens. Nearest address: Marlborough Lane, Bath, BA1 2NQ.
Walking: The Park is just a short stroll from Bath City Centre. Here are some landmarks you may be able to relate to…
Bath Abbey: 7 mins
Milsom Street: 4 mins
Train and Bus station: 10 mins
Southgate shopping centre: 9 mins
Driving & parking: The closest pay & display car park is Charlotte Street Car Park (BA1 2NE). It’s located directly below the Park and just a short walk up to our site. This car park is long stay but has a set evening charge of £1.50 for vehicles arriving between the hours of 6pm and 8pm.
Bath Spa Train Station and the Main Bus Station are located in the city centre, next to Southgate Shopping Centre – this is where all local and national buses/trains will arrive. From here, walking is the best way to get to the park, but if that isn’t possible there is a taxi rank directly outside the train station entrance. Alternatively catch bus number X39 (towards Bristol) or 14 (towards Weston) from the bus station, both of which have stops just outside the park. Please bear in mind evening operating hours. We can’t wait to see you all there!
Do I need a ticket?
No. Movie by Moonlight is a non-ticketed event. Simply turn up and make a donation on the gate from 5pm. All funds go towards our RUH Cancer Care Campaign, raising a minimum of £8.5 million towards the build of a pioneering new Cancer Centre at Bath’s Royal United Hospital
What happens if it rains?
The event will always go ahead in the event of bad weather – unless there are gale force winds which will present a danger to putting up the cinema screen. In the unlikely event that a screening is cancelled, we’ll give as much notice as possible, so please keep an eye out for information on our website and social media
Can I bring food and drink?
You can bring picnics with you – however please note that no glass of any kind is allowed onto the site, including bottles of wine and beer. All drinks MUST be in plastic or cans and please use plastic cups to drink from. In addition, we always have a fantastic local hot food vendor on site, as well as other treats! Please dispose of your rubbish responsibly using one of the recycling bins on site
Toilets will be available on site, as will recycling and litter units – love the park, leave no trace! There will also be an accessible area for wheelchair users.
Can I bring my dog?
Well behaved dogs on leads are permitted. Please remember that dogs have sensitive ears so we do prefer canine friends to be left at home where at all possible
Can I bring something to sit on?
Yes, please bring blankets or picnic chairs. Please note that our stewards request those members of the audience with chairs do not sit at the front, but rather position themselves towards the back of the audience area.
Can I smoke at the screening?
Smoking is permitted but out of respect to other audience members we ask that you go to the rear of the site, away from people to smoke. Please dispose of your rubbish responsibly.
Is there wheelchair access? Hearing Impaired options?
Our site is flat and accessible for wheelchairs, however please note that it is also grassy terrain.
Sadly there are no hearing impaired options at Movie by Moonlight.
With thanks to the following companies for making this event possible
