We will, we will, ROCK YOU! Get ready for this foot-stomping celebration of Queen and the extraordinary lead singer, Freddie Mercury set above the twinkling lights of Bath. This outdoor cinema in Royal Victoria Park, Bath is FREE* with a bucket collection on the night for patients and families cared for at the RUH – so not only will you be singing along to ‘We are the Champions,’ you’ll also be a champion for patients.
Bohemian Rhapsody (12A) is an enthralling celebration of Queen, their music, and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and convention to become one of history’s most beloved entertainers. Following Queen’s meteoric rise, their revolutionary sound and Freddie’s solo career, the film also chronicles the band’s reunion, and one of the greatest performances in rock history.
Please be aware, anyone under the age of 12 will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. Checks will be taking place at the entrance.
Times: The film will start at approximately 8.15pm (or when it gets dark). Gates are open from 6pm. The event will finish when the film does. Don’t forget to bring warm/extra layers of clothes and a torch for later in the evening!
*Donations: Please note this is a charity event. Whilst you do not need a ticket and entry is free, a donation is very much appreciated (suggested £5 per person – much less than the cinema!). 100% of funds raised on the night will go towards supporting patients and families cared for by the Royal United Hospitals Bath. There will be a bucket collection operating throughout the evening, staffed by our wonderful volunteers.
Security: There will be security at this event. Bag searches and other security measures will be conducted at the gates and throughout the event, to ensure everyone has a good time. Thank you in advance for your patience. Glass bottles, BBQ’s, and sharp knives (for those bringing picnics!) and other items deemed dangerous WILL NOT be allowed onto site, neither will personal stereos or other equipment to amplify music.
Seating: The event is located in a park, on the grass – we recommend bringing something to sit on! There will be an area closest to the screen reserved for blankets only. Guests bringing chairs are kindly asked to seat themselves behind this section.
Food and drink: There will be food vendors on site – TBC.
Other facilities: Toilets will be available on site, as will recycling and litter units – love the park, leave no trace!
Weather: The show must go on whether it rains or shines! Only gale-force winds will cancel the event.
Getting to Movie by Moonlight
Our site will be based in the Middle Common of the beautiful Royal Victoria Park, just below the Botanical Gardens. Nearest address: Marlborough Lane, Bath, BA1 2NQ.
Walking: The Park is just a short stroll from Bath City Centre. Here are some landmarks you may be able to relate to…
Bath Abbey: 7 mins
Milsom Street: 4 mins
Train and Bus station: 10 mins
Southgate shopping centre: 9 mins
Driving & parking: The closest pay & display car park is Charlotte Street Car Park (BA1 2NE). It’s located directly below the Park and just a short walk up to our site. This car park is long stay but has a set evening charge of £1.50 for vehicles arriving between the hours of 6pm and 8pm.
Public Transport: Bath Spa Train Station and the Main Bus Station are located in the city centre, next to Southgate Shopping Centre – this is where all local and national buses/trains will arrive. From here, walking is the best way to get to the park, but if that isn’t possible there is a taxi rank directly outside the train station entrance. Alternatively catch bus number X39 (towards Bristol) or 14 (towards Weston) from the bus station, both of which have stops just outside the park. Please bear in mind evening operating hours. We can’t wait to see you all there!
