Schools, nurseries and youth organisations in Bath, Wiltshire and Somerset are being encouraged to take part in Big Ted’s Day Out on 18 October to help raise funds for Children’s Services at the Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath.
As part of our 20th anniversary year, our much loved mascot, Big Ted is making a comeback.
Lauren Noble, Senior Community Fundraiser, The Forever Friends Appeal said:
“We would particularly like to see schools, nurseries, brownies, guides, scouts, universities and other youth groups getting involved and fundraising for their local hospital.
“This year’s theme is celebrate your way – so it’s up to you whether you organise a fancy dress day, wear a silly hat, have a teddy bears picnic or do something else fun in exchange for a suggested £1 contribution per pupil – just let us know what you’re going to do as Big Ted may make a special guest appearance.
“The aim is to raise money towards funding specialist children’s equipment, educational and therapy toys for the RUH’s neonatal care unit, children’s centre and children’s therapies.”
Emily Graham, Head of Children’s Therapies at the RUH said:
“We are delighted that Big Ted is helping us raise funds so we can purchase some very special items for the children and young people our team supports. Receiving charitable funds enables us to offer an extended range of toys and equipment to help make children’s’ experience of therapy sessions as enjoyable and successful as possible.
“This is an amazing opportunity for us to improve our resources and environment to help children engage with and enjoy their therapy. For example, story sacks to promote development of communication skills, and interactive toys to encourage movement. We would also like to buy new specialist equipment to support posture and mobility. This would enhance our assessment of children with disabilities to ensure they have the appropriate equipment to promote physical skills for play, mobility and life.”
