Meet Lisa Bowen, Catering Assistant at the Royal United Hospitals Bath.
“Everyone knows me as a very friendly and laughable person. I work on the switchboard, taking calls and helping people get through to the right person and I also work in the Lansdown restaurant. I love both of my jobs and my team are amazing. I couldn’t have achieved what I do at work without them, and I love working with them.
Working in a hospital there’s a lot going on, people are dealing with difficult decisions, some people are happy, others sad, so when they come to the Lansdown restaurant, I like to go that extra mile and make that person smile or even laugh, and hopefully they feel a bit better.
My aunty worked on the maternity unit for many years and I always loved hearing about her day, so I just felt like it was something I wanted to be a part of, so I pursued a career in the NHS.
I think I speak for most and say COVID has and still is having a massive impact on everyone and in every role that is being done in the hospital, I think we are all pulling together and getting on with it, yes, it’s scary but being an NHS worker, we need to set the example and I believe all the staff are doing an amazing job!
I’m always trying to help others especially in these hard times. I ran the little pop-up shop in the restaurant which was put in place to provide staff with the essentials like, bread, cereals, coffee etc during the first lockdown. It was a great success and the staff loved it as they didn’t have to worry about getting their essentials after their long 12-hour days. I will be working over the Christmas period because we need to look after each other and everyone that comes into our lives.
The community spirit for the hospital has been amazing and again to everyone that helped in any way, big or small as every little does help and it was absolutely amazing. A massive thank you!
I love spending as much time as possible with my beautiful children Paige aged 17 and Charlie aged 3 so as you can imagine most of spare time is taken up by them, but I wouldn’t change that for the world. My attitude will always be to enjoy life and every second of it, as you never know what each day will bring! ”Donate during the COVID-19 crisis
