The Camomile Café in Corsham is an incredibly exceptional and extraordinary place which functions as a children’s activity & therapy café.
The café recently organized an ‘adult & baby massage-athon’ with a goal to raise funds towards the purchase of nests for incubators to be used for NICU here at the RUH.
At the Royal United Hospital, 1 in 10 babies are born too small, too sick or too soon and therefore need additional care. The neonatal unit is responsible for providing the necessary care for these precious babies. The main supporters in terms of funding for the center are The Forever Friends Appeal, whom provide charitable support as part of the NICU ‘space to grow’ Campaign and give these precious babies the best possible start in life.
The efforts and impacts of this fundraising from the café is extremely supportive as incubator nests are used to enable the vulnerable babies within the incubators to feel safe and secure, whilst still being able to monitor them safely. For one nest it costs £28 and it is no question that this is a small price to pay for helping these tiny babies. In total, the Camomile café raised an impressive £308 for the center through their talented and effective massaging skills.
Owner of the café, Frances worked as a practice nurse for the past 15 years and has only recently retired. She has a particular interest in helping others to understand how to manage their health and wellbeing by providing them with the knowledge and confidence to do so and question the things they don’t understand.
Daughter and co-owner Anna works here in our very own NICU. She has expressed how it’s been a privilege to work as a nurse in the amazing unit over the past 6 months. Anna was inspired by her team and all that they do within the unit; she knew there was a shortage of nests for incubators and so she decided to fundraise in order to add to the numbers along with her mother in a very creative way. The café will continue on with their work, the next fundraising scheme is to begin £2 classes which raise money to go towards supporting the Chippenham Birthing Centre.
