Apple Tree Nursery go baking mad for Bake A Bear Competition

Children at Apple Tree Day Nursery have gone baking mad in support of The Forever Friends Appeal’s “Bake A Bear” Competition and last Friday were surprised with a special visit from the Appeal’s popular mascot “Big Ted” to thank them for all their hard work.

The Forever Friends Appeal (the primary charity at the Royal United Hospital in Bath) has teamed up with the Bath Cake Company to launch this exciting new baking competition as part of the charity’s brand new fundraising event for the hospital, Ted’s Big Bake Off, proudly sponsored by Mogers Drewett Solicitors, that takes place this October.

Rhianna Davies, Nursery Manager at Apple Tree Day Nursery says ‘Here at Apple Tree we are very proud to be taking part in The Forever Friends Appeal’s “Bake A Bear” Competition. The smell of the children’s delicious homemade cupcakes has been filling the air throughout our nursery and we were very proud to show Big Ted our creations. Parents and carers joined in the fun and proudly brought in their children’s beautifully decorated cupcakes to share with their friends here at Apple Tree. The children were very proud of their achievements and we are now looking forward to taking part in the Appeal’s main fundraising event “Ted’s Big Bake Off” in October!”

The Appeal are now encouraging as many individuals, schools, nurseries and organisations as possible from across Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire to Bake A Bear for the chance to win some amazing prizes. The competition is open to young and old, with two categories: Under 18s and Over 18s. To take part, all you have to do is follow the cupcake recipe, kindly provided by Bath Cake Company, and decorate with your very own teddy bear design. Take a photograph of your creation and email in to us at the Bath Chronicle via tedsbigbakeoff@localworld.co.uk . The cupcake recipe can be found by visiting www.tedsbigbakeoff.com along with full terms and conditions of the competition.

Emily  Lynch, Events Officer for the Appeal says, “The deadline for cupcake entries is 15th September and after this point, all entries will be considered with the best decorated being shortlisted in two separate categories: Over 18s and Under 18s. The shortlisted entries will be invited into the RUH on Monday 5th October, where the cupcakes will be judged in a live taste test by special guest judges, with exceptional prizes being presented to the two star bakers.”

Emily continues, “The Appeal has launched the Bake A Bear Competition especially to celebrate our brand new annual fundraising week for the hospital, Ted’s Big Bake Off.”

Taking place between Monday 5th and Friday 9th October 2015, Ted’s Big Bake Off asks individuals, schools, businesses and community organisations to pre-heat their ovens, prepare their mixing bowls and get baking to support the RUH Cancer Care Campaign or a ward or department of their choice at the Hospital. Whether it’s holding a bake sale or hosting a bake off competition at work, school or with friends and family, you can help raise some serious dough to help transform care for patients and their families.

Emily Lynch comments: “The RUH provides a service to over 500,000 patients and their families across Bath, Wiltshire, Somerset and even further afield, and we hope that as many people as possible will get baking in October to support the Hospital and the local community. Raising money couldn’t be more delicious!”

Baking is a fun and simple way to raise money and whip up some delicious treats that everyone can enjoy! All bakers will be able to choose their own recipe for success and bake to fundraise for a ward or department close to their heart, or the current RUH Cancer Care Campaign – raising £8.5 million towards a pioneering new Cancer Centre. Whether its Victoria sponges, cupcakes, flapjacks or delicious breads; all tasty treats made will help transform care for patient and their families at the Royal United Hospital.

Whether you’re an individual, business, school or community organisation, getting involved in Ted’s Big Bake Off couldn’t be easier!
