Throughout 2012, Chipping Sodbury Golf Club raised an incredible £14, 050 for The Forever Friends Appeal at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
The very generous gift will be donated towards the Appeal’s RUH Cancer Care Campaign – building a new pioneering Cancer Centre for patients and their families at the RUH.
Randolph and Jackie Berry of Tormarton choose to support the local cause throughout their successful year as Captains in 2012. The couple invited Club members and friends for a Reception Evening at the Golf Club on Wednesday 3rd April. They welcomed everyone with wine and canapés and presented the cheque to Zoe, the Appeal’s Community Fundraiser.
Working in partnership with the NHS, The Forever Friends Appeal is raising over £5 million towards a new £20.5 million new Cancer Centre which will drastically transform the current outdated cancer facilities at the RUH.
Much of the existing RUH cancer services are located in 70 year-old, inadequate, war time accommodation and are in desperate need of improving. The new Centre will meet these requirements by providing a state-of-the-art build, fit for purpose.
Building on the excellent track record with the RUH’s last capital project; the Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care, the new Cancer Centre will adopt a holistic approach. Combining ‘clinical excellence’, a ‘therapeutic environment’, a ‘survivorship model of care’ and ‘proactive research’ – all designed to create a highly beneficial healing environment for the RUH cancer patients and their families.
Dr Sarah Wexler, Consultant Haematologist at the RUH comments: “We want to provide an environment which is holistic, that envelops the patient, making them feel safe, supported and special so that they can get through their treatment with the least amount of stress. This Cancer Centre is going to revolutionise the way that we provide cancer care.”
Zoe Tainton, Community Fundraiser comments: “I would like to personally give an enormous thank you to Randolph and Jackie for their huge efforts and commitment towards the Campaign. They are such a warm, kind and friendly couple, they deserve all the support they have received. We are very proud to say that Chipping Sodbury Golf Club will be acknowledged for all their hard work and recognised for generations to come in the new Centre.”
