Clay pigeon shooting event raises over £5,000

Oakwood Shooting Ground Ltd, a local company near Chippenham, has raised over £5,000 for The Forever Friends Appeal.

The money was raised at a two day clay pigeon shooting event in September, and has been donated to our Cancer Care Campaign towards the build of the pioneering new Dyson Cancer Centre at the RUH.

Ian Anderson, who with the help of Edward Drewett and Andy Nurden organised the event said:

“We know of so many people who have received specialist cancer treatment and are aware of the Appeal’s Cancer Care Campaign for the new cancer unit at the RUH in Bath, so we thought we’d hold a clay shooting event to raise money for this worthy cause.

“The shoot was held at our shooting ground in Dauntsey and over 130 people attended during the two days. The weather was perfect, allowing all participants to enjoy shooting 100 clays per gun in ideal conditions. We are very grateful to everyone who supported our efforts to raise the funds, including our sponsors.”

The Forever Friends Appeal launched the Cancer Care Campaign five years ago in response to the hospital’s Fit for the Future redevelopment opportunity to transform cancer care for its patients and their families.

Thanks to the continued support and goodwill from the public over £9million has been raised for the new Dyson Cancer Centre, due to be built at the RUH in 2019.

Laura Rankin, Corporate Officer said:

“On behalf of the Appeal, I’d like to thank Ian, Edward, Andy and everyone at Oakwood Shooting Ground for their wonderful donation towards our Cancer Care Campaign.

“We rely on the invaluable support we receive from the local corporate community to be able to invest in projects that go above and beyond what the NHS can provide, and Oakwood Shooting Ground’s support will make a real difference to patients, their families, carers and the staff who treat them.”
