Community comes together to crochet for Cancer

Bath In Fashion have selected The Forever Friends Appeal as their chosen charity for the 2016 festival and will be crocheting for the Cancer Care Campaign. Each year Bath In Fashion create a huge Yarnbomb and decorate Milsom Street in Bath to raise funds and awareness for their chosen charity. This year the Yarnbomb will be in support of the RUH Cancer Care Campaign and fashion icon Mulberry have come on board to sponsor the event. Mulberry will sponsor £100 for every post decorated on Milsom Street to help raise funds for the new Cancer Centre.

Rob Billington, Group Production and Sourcing Director at Mulberry Company (Design) Ltd comments:  Having been based in Somerset since 1971, Mulberry has a long history of supporting charities that make a positive difference to the people in the communities where our own employees live and work. Many of our 800 employees working in Somerset have friends or family that have been cared for by the RUH. We are therefore proud and privileged to be sponsoring The Forever Friends Appeal and to be working with Bath in Fashion to make a real difference in our local community.

The Yarnbomb will go up for the duration of Bath In Fashion (18th – 24th April) adding colour and fun to the streets of Bath alongside the stella line-up for this year’s fashion fest. Emma Leith from Bath In Fashion came up to the RUH to run a drop-in session with staff, patients AND Big Ted at the hospital. She comments: “This will be our third yarn bomb for Bath in Fashion and its made all the more special for me that it is supporting the RUH Forever Friends Appeal.  Having recently been diagnosed with breast cancer myself I am only too aware of the value and importance of this wonderful charity. Milsom Street will be transformed into a festival of colour and we hope it will add a bit of joy into people’s lives much like the Forever Friends Charity does all year round.”

This event will be a real collaboration, with wool being donated from Rico Design, and the whole community will get involved! The Forever Friends Appeal are calling on the community to make and donate their crocheted creations to form part of the Yarnbomb. Whether a beginner or a pro, the charity welcomes your support to help decorate Milsom Street and raise funds. The theme is floral and please visit The Forever Friends website to find out how to crochet a flower: www.foweverfriendsappeal.co.uk/events/bath-in-fashion-yarnbomb

One in two people are affected by cancer and everyday lives are changed by this disease. The Forever Friends Appeal’s RUH Cancer Care campaign is raising a minimum of £8.5 million towards the building of a pioneering new Cancer Centre. This Cancer Centre will be a state of the art building, with every part designed around the needs of patients with different forms of cancer. It will transform the care for patients and their families at the RUH.

Corporate Fundraiser for The Forever Friends Appeal, Louisa Smyllie, comments:  “We are delighted to have been chosen by Bath In Fashion and to be working with them on the Yarnbomb. It is an exciting opportunity to create something spectacular and have the support of Mulberry too is amazing! We hope that everyone is inspired to get involved and send us their crochet creations.”
