Design a hat for Big Ted: Winners announced!

Bath based law firm Mogers Solicitors, sponsors of The Forever Friends Appeal’s annual fundraising day Ted’s Big Day Out, are thrilled to announce the winners of their 2013 ‘Design a Hat for Big Ted’ competition.  To help encourage as many people as possible to get involved in the fundraising day, Mogers ran this competition and invited local schools and nurseries to encourage their pupils to draw a hat for Big Ted, as the theme for this year’s fundraising day was ‘Wear a wig or raise a hat’!

Response from the competition was fantastic, but there could only be two winners.  Both winners will get to meet Big Ted at the presentation of their prizes – a £50 book token each, as well as £100 of book token for their schools.  Winner of the age 6 and under category was Sophie Allen from Bathwick St Mary’s School in Bath, and Jack Cooper-Collyer from Crockerton Primary School in Warminster, won the age 7-11 category.

Staff from Mogers Solicitors also got very involved with the fundraising activities on Friday 18th October by hosting a Mad Hatters Tea Party.  Steven Treharne, Managing Partner at Mogers Solicitors, said: “We had a fantastic day from Ted’s visit in the morning to our tea party at lunchtime, everyone at Mogers took part and we raise nearly £2000.”

Thousands of teddies, wigs and hats were out and about on Ted’s Big Day Out this year all across the hospital’s catchment area.  Along with many other schools, nurseries, businesses and community organisations, both Bathwick St Mary’s School and Crockerton School took part in the fundraising activities on Friday 18th October to help raise as much as possible towards a pioneering new Cancer Centre for the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

Events & Community Officer for The Forever Friends Appeal, Jo Hones, comments:  “Massive congratulations to both Sophie and Jack for designing such fabulous hats for Big Ted. We were very impressed to see all the wonderful and creative designs from everyone who took part.  Here at the Appeal we are so thrilled to have seen so many teddies, wigs and hats out and about on Ted’s Big Day Out – all helping to raise funds for this exceptional new Cancer Centre which will transform the care of patients with cancer and their families at the RUH. ”

The Forever Friends Appeal are encouraging everyone who took part and hasn’t yet paid in their fundraising to do so as soon as possible.  Paying in information is available on the website www.tedsbigdayout.co.uk.

The date for Ted’s Big Day Out next year is Friday 17th October 2014.
