Staff members at a Trowbridge-based nutrition company have donated £3,000 to The Forever Friends Appeal towards a new cancer centre for Bath’s Royal United Hospital.
The eight members of the executive team from Danone Nutricia Early Life Nutrition raised the money by taking on the Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge in June.
The challenge is an endurance event which involves climbing the three highest peaks in Yorkshire in under 12 hours.
The money raised for the Cancer Care Campaign will help the RUH realise its vision to create a new cancer care centre.
Gill Simpson, corporate affairs director at Danone Nutricia Early Life Nutrition said: “Walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks was a great team challenge, and we were all very proud to complete the walk in under the target time of 12 hours. A member of my family was successfully treated for cancer at the Royal United Hospital last year, so it was important for me to be able to give something back to such a worthwhile cause, and to thank them for the amazing work that they do.”
Inspired by the success of the Three Peaks Challenge, the finance team at Danone Nutricia are now in training to take on two Ironman challenges this October to raise money for the children’s ward at the RUH.
On October 16 they will be heading to Bradford on Avon to complete a 4.8-mile swim, 224-mile bike ride and 52.4-mile run. You can show your support by donating towards the Children’s Department at https://www.justgiving.com/Jed-Campbell2/.
Corporate Officer for the Forever Friends Appeal, Louisa Smyllie, said: “We are delighted that staff members at Danone Nutricia have chosen to fundraise for departments across the RUH, it is a cause close to the hearts of many. We hope that others will be inspired to get together in the work place and take on a challenge for their local hospital.”
