Today, to mark 70 days until the NHS turns 70, we are inviting the public to raise a cuppa and celebrate our wonderful health service.
The NHS Big7Tea has been organised to raise awareness of the vital work of NHS charities and is looking to the public to get involved and host a tea party to celebrate 70 years of the NHS on Thursday 5 July.
Tim Hobbs, Head of Fundraising said:
“We’re proud of supporting the RUH and we would like to see as many people as possible involved in the 70th anniversary celebrations, raising funds for the Appeal as a thank you to the NHS.
“Tea brings us all together and is a symbol of community, so why not host a tea party of your own, a street party, in your local village hall or at work and invite your friends, family or colleagues to have a cuppa and mark the occasion. We’d love to hear about your Big7Tea event, so don’t forget to tell us about it.”
Over the last 70 years the NHS has transformed the health and wellbeing of the nation and helping behind the scenes are more than 250 dedicated NHS charities.
The Forever Friends Appeal has funded major capital projects for the RUH, such as the Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care (NICU) which opened in 2011. This building was the first of its kind in the UK and would not have been possible without the help and support of everyone who donated towards it.
The Appeal is currently fundraising £2m for the new RNHRD and Therapies Centre and maximising its Cancer Care Campaign for the new cancer centre as well as funding pioneering medical equipment for wards and department and supporting other areas in the Trust to help patients access the best possible care when they need it most.
To help people host a tea party, a party pack with templates of posters, bunting, cake cards, and even selfie props can be requested here
The NHS is turning 70 this year and what better way to celebrate one of the nation’s most loved institutions than with a cup of tea.
