Lansdown Golf Club presents cheque for Cancer Care Campaign

Last week, we were delighted to be presented with a cheque for £3,250 by Michael, Club Captain of Lansdown Golf Club, in Bath. This amount will be donated towards our Cancer Care Cancer Campaign.

Thanks to the generosity of its club members and the public, this significant amount will go towards the pioneering new Cancer Centre which will be built at the Royal United Hospitals, Bath, with construction of the Cancer Centre planned to commence in 2019.

Michael Cheek, Club Captain, Lansdown Golf Club said:

“We decided to support the Cancer Care Campaign because we have lost a number of friends over the years to cancer and we know how well the RUH looks after people who have this dreadful disease.

My wife, Lynn was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996 but fortunately it was caught in time and although she did need to have a lumpectomy and subsequent radiotherapy treatment she was eventually given a clean bill of health.

“Over the years, nearly all our family have required treatment at the RUH for various matters, some relatively minor and some quite serious – in 2005 I had to have an angioplasty with four stents. So, you will appreciate why we hold the RUH and all who work there in such high esteem.”

Back in February this year, the Appeal announced it had reached its minimum fundraising target of £8.5 million. But, it stressed it would continue the Cancer Care Campaign with many of its donors and supporters wanting to keep going to ensure the new Cancer Centre would be truly special in its design, facilities and equipment.

Claudia Hickin, Senior Community Fundraiser said:

“It was a real pleasure working with Mike and everyone at Lansdown Golf Club, especially when we were invited to enter a team at one of their quiz nights – needless to say, our skills lie in fundraising! Thank you to Mike and his wife Lynn, and to all at Lansdown Golf Club for their hard work and support over the past year.”
