Legendary Appeal Mascot to appear on open top Bath Bus

To celebrate 15 years of The Forever Friends Appeal’s annual fundraising day “Ted’s Big Day Out!”, this year the Appeal have teamed up with Bath Bus Company to bring a rather spectacular sight to Bath’s morning commuters….

For two mornings only, between 8am-9am next Monday 15th and Thursday 18th September, the Appeal’s very own loveable mascot “Big Ted” and his publicity team will appear on the top deck of one of Bath Bus Company’s Big Red Sightseeing Buses, which will be touring around Bath City Centre to promote the various exciting activities surrounding this year’s Ted’s Big Day Out! which takes place on Friday 17th October 2014.

Ted’s Big Day Out, proudly sponsored in 2014 by Mogers Drewett Solicitors, started in 1999 and over the course of fifteen years has seen hundreds of thousands of teddies across Bath, Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire enjoy an annual outing to work, school or wherever to raise tens of thousands of pounds for The Forever Friends Appeal in just one day! For 2014 the Appeal is encouraging schools, businesses, nurseries, clubs, community organisations and individuals to sign up to support the fundraising day by having fun with funky footwear – take part and wear anything from silly socks, colourful crocs to wacky wellies, loopy laces and odd shoes! Or you could simply take part in the traditional way and take your teddy out for the day on Friday 17th October 2014.

Events & Community Officer for the Appeal, Emily Lynch says: “We are so grateful to Bath Bus Company for allowing the Appeal to make such brilliant use of one of their buses! We intend to use this opportunity to promote Ted’s Big Day Out with as many local people as possible, who may be on their way to work or school. It is our hope that we can encourage as many people as possible to sign up to take part in Ted’s Big Day Out on Friday 17th October, which is completely free and open to businesses and schools all over Bath, Somerset, Wiltshire and Bristol.”

Funds raised by businesses, schools, organisations and/ or individuals who register to take part in Ted’s Big Day Out! can be donated to support any ward or department at Bath’s Royal United Hospital (RUH), or alternatively can be dedicated to the Appeal’s current RUH Cancer Care Campaign, raising £8.5 million towards the build of a pioneering new Cancer Centre at the RUH.

Emily continues: “If you are planning to walk through Bath City Centre between 8am and 9am next Monday and/or Thursday, please do keep your eyes peeled for Big Ted and his publicity team! We have some VERY exciting activities going on in Bath City Centre surrounding this year’s foot themed event, including Ted’s Wacky Welly Hunt, which challenges the public to find 15 pairs of animal inspired welly boots currently hidden in the display windows of 15 shops, and a “Funk up Your Footwear” promotional stand in the Southgate Centre on the day of Ted’s Big Day Out, where for one day only, mobile shoe artists from Bath’s popular “The Makery” will be funking up people’s old shoes and boots in return for a donation to The Forever Friends Appeal.”

By registering to take part in this year’s “Ted’s Big Day Out”, your support will help the Appeal transform care for patients and their families at Bath’s Royal United Hospital.
