MAMMA MIA! Movie by Moonlight raises thousands for RUH Cancer Care

The Forever Friends Appeal’s annual Movie by Moonlight, Proudly Sponsored by Freestyle Designs, took place once again this year on Bank Holiday Sunday 30th August to great success! Despite the wet weather the event managed to raise over £6,000 for the Royal United Hospital’s “RUH Cancer Care Campaign” which is raising £8.5 million towards a pioneering new Cancer Centre at the hospital.

Thousands of people from across the hospital’s catchment area turned out with their deckchairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy Mamma Mia! under the stars with family and friends.

Events & Community Officer for The Forever Friends Appeal, Emily Lynch comments:  “We are so grateful to everyone who braved the bad weather to come and watch Mamma Mia with us on Bank Holiday Sunday. It was lovely to see so many happy faces during the movie and we were so thrilled that the audience donated so generously to the Appeal’s RUH Cancer Care Campaign on the night!”

All funds raised at the event will go towards the RUH Cancer Care Campaign to help build an exceptional new Cancer Centre for cancer patients at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.  Each year the RUH cares for 2,200 new cancer patients from the hospital’s extensive catchment area.  The clinical care is amongst the best in the UK, but the cancer unit facilities are outdated and uncomfortable, and do not provide patients with the positive environment necessary to support the healing process.  The hospital’s vision is to build a Cancer Centre which will balance clinical expertise with the provision of a nurturing and therapeutic environment.

Emily continues, “The Appeal are so grateful to local signage company Freestyle Designs for sponsoring the event this year and for bringing along complimentary bottled water and mints for our audience to enjoy. We would also like to thank Julian Jones and the Heart Angels for presenting on the night and for bringing along snacks and lastly and most importantly, Geoff Bissex and his son Nic at Filmair Cinema Services for their continued support with putting on the event – the event would not be possible without their kind support every year”.
