Health Care Practitioner in Oncology, Jayne Hampson and Health Care Assistant in Midford Ward, Sophia Alford have fundraised over £1,200 from a sponsored walk from Longleat to Bath on 4th May. All funds are being donated to The Forever Friends Appeal’s RUH Cancer Care Campaign- raising an additional £2-3 million to build a new pioneering Cancer Centre.
Between them both, Jayne and Sophia have worked at the RUH for 13 years. Their passion for their job drove them to help patients and their families walking through the current outdated cancer facilities at the RUH.
Jayne Hampson comments: “I really enjoy my job in Oncology and have a close friendship with a lot of my patients; one of those who we recently treated was Sophia’s auntie. The walk took a total of 9 hours- it was a long day! We started at 7am in the rain but we were lucky the sun eventually came out and we were pleased to sit in a pub garden after 17 miles. After a much-needed cider to quench the thirst, we set off again and arrived at Bath Abbey by 4pm. We were met by some of our lovely work colleagues and Sophia’s auntie Mandy. We want to say a massive thank you to everyone for sponsoring us.”
With their fundraising total, the girls are more than pleased to be able to donate £1000 to Be a Brick! The fantastic Be a Brick! Buy a Brick! Scheme ran by The Forever Friends Appeal gives the general public the opportunity to buy a brick, row or wall to help raise funds for the new Cancer Centre. Jayne and Sophia will be purchasing a wall for £1000, this means that their names will be seen for generations to come in the new Cancer Centre.
This exciting new ‘Be a Brick’ scheme will give the general public the opportunity to ‘Be a Brick!’ and ‘Buy a Brick, Row or Wall’ to help raise funds to build a pioneering new Cancer Centre for the hospital. In return for purchasing a virtual brick at the cost of £10 each, donors will receive a ‘Be a Brick’ certificate and acknowledgement letter. If donors choose to purchase a virtual ‘Row’ for £100 or ‘Wall’ for £1000, they will receive a certificate together with an acknowledgement of their chosen name within the design of the new Cancer Centre.
