Simply does it for the RUH

Simple Recruitment, based in Midsomer Norton, have been busy engaging their clients throughout March to help their Easter initiative to support the Children’s Ward at Bath’s Royal United Hospital, as well as two other Bristol based Children’s charities. Companies all over the area have been donating Easter eggs to give to those children being looked after on the ward over the Easter period.  On Tuesday 7th April, Company Director, Jayla Wilcox visited the RUH Children’s Ward to present their donation of gifts, which were gratefully received on behalf of the children, by Lyn Gardiner, RUH Play Specialist.

In addition to this Easter initiative, in 2014 Simple Recruitment chose the Royal United Hospital’s Forever Friends Appeal as their charity partner, to support the Campaign to help build a pioneering new Cancer Centre.  Jayla Wilcox and her team have consequently spent the past eight months getting involved in all aspects of fundraising for the charity, in order to buy a ‘Virtual Wall’ for the new RUH Cancer Centre.  As part of the ‘Be a Brick’ fundraising scheme, organisations who raise £1000 can purchase a virtual wall, and will be given the opportunity to have their chosen name acknowledged within the design of the new Cancer Centre building.  Simple Recruitment have now raised over £1000 to purchase their virtual wall, and therefore have their company name acknowledged in the new Cancer Centre.  The team are now busy working towards their second thousand.

To help towards this target, on the first bank Holiday Monday in May, Jayla is taking on the Trowbridge long distance triathlon, including a 600m swim, 48k bike, 10k run.  Jayla’s past achievements for the charity in 2014 include completing both the Bristol and Chippenham half marathons, as well as the 5k Colour me Rad event last August.   Jayla comments:  “Every year our Easter Egg collection gets bigger and bigger our clients just love to get involved so much so we now deliver to 3 charities each year, it’s wonderful to work with companies who want to help in any way they can.  The RUH do a fantastic job in the services they provide throughout the hospital from the children’s ward to cancer care and all in between. The new cancer care unit is such an important project and we are glad to focus our fundraising activities in their direction.

The RUH Cancer Care Campaign is raising £8.5million towards the building of a pioneering and urgently needed new Cancer Centre.  The RUH treats over 2200 new cancer patients every year, and although the clinical care is amongst the best in the UK, the buildings are outdated, uncomfortable and no longer fit for purpose.  Using innovative design and state-of-the-art technology, the new Centre promises to become a healing environment that will dramatically improve patient care.

Corporate Officer for The Forever Friends Appeal, Jo Common, comments:  “We are so pleased to have the wonderful support of Jayla and her team at Simple Recruitment.  They are passionate about supporting many different areas of the hospital – not only is Jayla taking on many personal sporting challenges to raise funds for the Cancer Centre, she is also determined to help make a positive difference to patients on the children’s ward as well.  Here at the RUH, we are so very grateful for their ongoing support!”
