Solicitors who generously donated their Will writing fees in September have raised an incredible £33,000 for the Royal United Hospital’s charity, The Forever Friends Appeal.
Seventeen local branches of solicitors across the hospital’s catchment area teamed up with The Forever Friends Appeal to give their support to its first ever RUH Will month scheme, which ran throughout September.
The participating solicitors volunteered their time and expertise to write Wills for local people, helping them to put their affairs in order, plan and secure the future of their loved ones, whilst supporting their local hospital.
The new initiative offered the general public the opportunity to have a Will professionally drawn up at a reduced cost, with a single standard Will for £100 or standard Mirror Wills at £150.00, with their fees kindly waived by the solicitors and donated directly to the RUH’s charity.
Jan Witt, Legacy Officer for The Forever Friends Appeal said: “We are very extremely grateful to the solicitors who came on board to support us and we are absolutely delighted with the success of our first ever RUH Will Month scheme. All the solicitors worked extremely hard to help as many people as possible to get the protection of a proper Will drawn up. The success of this fundraising is a testament of their sheer hard work, together with the generosity of the public who came forward to have their Wills written under the scheme. We would like to thank each and every one of them.”
Jan Witt continues, “The charity, relies on donations and gifts in Wills to help the RUH to continue to provide the very best treatment, medical equipment and facilities for all the patients it cares for across Bath, Somerset, Wiltshire and further afield. This scheme was an ideal way to raise awareness of the importance of having an up to date Will, with the opportunity for the public to choose and support a specific area of the hospital’s work; now and in the future. We are so pleased and overwhelmed with the response that we will repeat the initiative again for September 2016.”
