With just over one week to go until Ted’s Big Day Out, Big Ted is brushing off his hat and getting ready for his annual outing. Ted’s Big Day Out on Friday 18th October, is The Forever Friends Appeal’s annual region-wide fundraising day where organisations and individuals take their teddy bears to work, school or wherever to help raise money for the RUH Cancer Care Campaign. With this year proudly sponsored by Mogers Solicitors, the day’s fun theme encourages supporters to wear a wig or raise a hat. Everyone can get involved and have fun, and there is still time to register and take part if you haven’t already.
With many businesses, schools, organisations and nurseries already signed up there will be lots of fantastic activities going on around the RUH catchment area on the day. Bluefin Insurance are baking cakes and wearing wigs and hats into the office, Baskerville’s School of Gymnastics are having teddy bear themed lessons all week, staff at Bath Aqua Glass on Walcot Street are wearing wigs and hats to work for the day, Bathampton Primary are taking their teddy bears out for the day and joining in with the Wig and Hat fundraising theme. All organisations registered are able to enter Big Ted’s grand prize draw, where a few lucky winners will receive a visit from Big Ted himself on the day.
It is also going to be an exciting day for the pupils at St Michael’s Junior School in Bath, with lots of fun activities and games planned during their breaks and after school. There will be a ‘pink’ mufti day for staff and pupils, plenty of delicious pink cakes to eat, a penalty shootout competition, an orphaned teddy bear raffle where children can help give an unwanted bear a home, as well as ‘bring your copper coins to school’. Finally, at the end of the day, the school can celebrate at Ted’s Big Pink Disco with sweets, pizza and crisps. This will be the school’s 11th year raising funds for TBDO and have raised over £1,600 for The Forever Friends Appeal. Mr David Goucher comments: “We are all so very proud to support the fantastic work of the RUH and the work of the appeal to raise money for such an amazing cause. Our children can’t wait for the big day and after meeting Ted the other week, it makes it even more special”
Events & Community Officer for the Forever Friends Appeal, Jo Hones, comments: “Ted’s Big Day Out is a fun way to support and fundraise for the RUH Cancer Care Campaign to help improve services at Bath’s RUH. We have many fantastic organisations already signed up but we would love to have even more join in and take part. We hope to make this Ted’s Big Day Out the biggest and best yet- but to do that we need your help!”
Jo continues: “You can support in the traditional way and take your teddy out for the day or you can join in with the theme and wear a wig or raise a hat. There are so many fun things you can do, such as dressing up as your favourite hat wearing celebrities or having a best wig or hat competition. If that doesn’t take your fancy, you could even hold a cake sale or coffee morning and still show your support.’’
This year, Ted’s Big Day Out is proudly sponsored by Bath based soliciters, Mogers. To celebrate they are holding a fun competition for school children, nurseries and clubs to design and draw Ted his very own hat. The lucky winner will have their prize delivered by Big Ted and it’s not too late to enter as the deadline for entries has been extended to Friday 11th October. For more information please contact Louise Kelly at Mogers 01225 750017.
Steve Treharne Managing Partner at Mogers Solicitors says: “I am delighted that Mogers Solicitors is again involved with Ted’s Big Day Out. As a local Bath firm we are proud to help the Forever Friends Appeal make a lasting difference to the local community. We have loved receiving the competition entries so far and next Friday we are looking forward to a mad hatter tea party in the office.”
In the lead up to Ted’s Big Day Out, Big Ted and The Forever Friends Appeal team were out and about in Bath City Centre on Saturday 21st September raising funds with a bucket collection for the RUH Cancer Care Campaign. Bucket collectors embraced the theme and were spotted enjoying the day in anything from bright blue wigs to colourful sombreros! The day raised a fantastic £773.61, which will be put towards Ted’s Big Day Out grand total.
There will be another street collection in Bath City Centre on 18th October to get Ted’s Big Day Out started. If you see any of Ted’s Team out and about in wigs or hats please give generously!
The RUH Cancer Care Campaign aims to raise £8million towards building a pioneering new Cancer Centre that will transform the care received by cancer patients and their families at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. Each year the RUH treats over 2,000 new patients with cancer from the hospitals extensive catchment area. The new centre will balance clinical expertise with the provision of a nurturing and therapeutic environment, that will dramatically improve patient care and the experience for all those affected. Ted’s Big Day Out is a fun way to show your support and help fundraise for this new centre.
It’s not too late to take part! If you or your friends and colleagues want to join in and wear a wig or hat for Ted’s Big Day Out annual fundraising day please visit www.tedsbigdayout.co.uk to register or call Ted’s hotline at The Forever Friends Appeal on 01225 825823.
