The Makery to funk up peoples footwear for Ted’s Big Day Out!

This year will see the fifteenth birthday of The Forever Friends Appeal’s annual fundraising day for the Royal United Hospital “Ted’s Big Day Out!” proudly sponsored by Mogers Drewett. To celebrate, Bath’s creative hub “The Makery” will be exclusively supporting the Appeal’s event and its theme for this year: “Wear Some Funky Footwear” on Friday 17th October, by offering a special “Funk up Your Footwear with The Makery” shoe artists workshop between 11am-3pm in Bath’s Southgate Centre.

Ted’s Big Day Out! started in 1999 and over the course of fifteen years has seen thousands of teddies across Bath, Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire enjoy an annual outing to work, school or wherever to help raise tens of thousands of pounds for The Forever Friends Appeal in just one day!  For 2014 the Appeal is encouraging businesses, schools, nurseries, clubs, community organisations and individuals to sign up to support the fundraising day by having fun with funky footwear – take part and wear anything from silly socks, colourful crocs to wacky wellies, loopy laces and odd shoes!  Or you could simply pay just £1 to take part in the traditional way and take your teddy out for the day on Friday 17th October.

The Makery are now asking as many people as possible to bring along their old footwear,  from old wellington boots to dull trainers, down to the workshop which will run between 11am-3pm on Friday 17th October. Both old footwear and a stock of new footwear will be transformed by The Makery team in their own unique style, in return for donations to The Forever Friends Appeal, who are currently fundraising £8.5 million towards the build of a pioneering new Cancer Centre at the RUH.

Kate Smith, Owner of The Makery says: “We’re delighted to be involved in the Forever Friends Appeal, to help raise as much as possible for the incredible work carried out at the RUH. With our experience in running workshops from our creative hub in central Bath, we hope to inspire creativity at the Funky Footwear event, and ensure the people of Bath have the most eye-catching shoes ever seen!”

Events & Community Officer for the Appeal, Emily Lynch, explains: “The Forever Friends Appeal are so grateful to Kate and Nigel Smith, owners of The Makery, for agreeing to support our popular annual fundraising day for the hospital. The Makery are so well known and respected in Bath and we couldn’t have wished for a better organization to help us promote our funky footwear theme for this year’s Ted’s Big Day Out!”

The Breeze FM promotional team will also be down in Southgate on Friday 17th October running a special “You’ve been Snapped!” competition for shoppers and their funky footwear. Big Ted himself will also be visiting Southgate at 11am to launch the “Funk up Your Footwear” workshop and to also encourage shoppers to take part in a 30 second en masse “Stomp for Ted!” with The Makery and Appeal staff in support of the RUH.

Emily continues: “The Appeal are also grateful to Southgate’s Management Centre for supporting our event by supplying a stock of brand new shoes which The Makery will also be decorating and which will also be up for grabs down in Southgate on the day! If you belong to a school, business, or community organization, we hope that you will register to take part in Ted’s Big Day Out on Friday 17th October. Your support will help The Forever Friends Appeal transform care for patients and their families at Bath’s Royal United Hospital!”

Registration is free and you can do so online at www.tedsbigdayout.co.uk – you could even win a visit from Big Ted himself!
