The Rode Ball Committee presented a cheque to The Forever Friends Appeal yesterday for an incredible £11,282.22. The Appeal team were delighted to meet members of the Committee Kelly Jupp, Jo Pobjoy and Lucy Claphan for the presentation of this incredible donation, raised from their Rode Autumn Ball in October 2014.
This is the second Rode Ball organised by this committee, with combined funds raised for The Forever Friends Appeal totalling over £21,000. Community Fundraiser at The Forever Friends Appeal, Lydia McGivern, comments “We cannot thank the Rode Ball Committee enough for their commitment, enthusiasm and hard work. What they have achieved is absolutely incredible and will help to make a huge difference to patients suffering from cancer at the RUH.”
The first Rode Ball, held in July 2012 with an Olympic theme, saw over 270 guests enjoy a glamorous evening with a twist. In addition to a delicious three-course meal, six-piece band and auction with prizes including a villa in Menorca for a week and a Vivienne Westwood handbag, guests were also entertained by a Bucking Bronco, Marco the Magician, and much much more.
The committee did not stop after the overwhelming success of this initial event – and went on to organise an even more successful Ball in 2014. This fire themed black tie event was attended by President of The Forever Friends Appeal, Mr Jeff Manning, who gave a speech regarding the importance of the night’s fundraising. Mr. Manning’s speech was then followed by a few words from a former patient of the RUH who, having had recent successful treatment for stomach cancer, shared his incredible and moving story with guests.
