To celebrate 15 years of The Forever Friends Appeal’s annual fundraising day “Ted’s Big Day Out!”, proudly sponsored by Mogers Drewett Solicitors, this Autumn the Appeal have teamed up with 15 shops in Bath City Centre to launch a special “Wacky Welly Hunt!”
Ted’s Big Day Out! started in 1999 and over the course of fifteen years has seen thousands of teddies across Bath, Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire enjoy an annual outing to work, school or wherever to help raise tens of thousands of pounds for The Forever Friends Appeal in just one day! For 2014 the Appeal is encouraging schools, businesses, nurseries, clubs, community organisations and individuals to sign up to support the fundraising day by having fun with funky footwear – take part and wear anything from silly socks, colourful crocs to wacky wellies, loopy laces and odd shoes! Or you could simply pay just £1 to take part in the traditional way and take your teddy out for the day on Friday 17th October.
Events & Community Officer for the Appeal, Emily Lynch, explains: “To celebrate 15 years of Ted’s Big Day Out and to promote this year’s theme of “Wear Some Funky Footwear” we thought it would be fun to ask some of our supporters in Bath City Centre to funk up a pair of plain working wellington boots and then hide in their shop window for the public to hunt! We have been overwhelmed with the response from local retailers and are so proud to be working with some of the finest independent shops in Bath. The Appeal are also hugely grateful to Dickies for donating the wellies to us free of charge to support the hunt!”
From Monday 1st September until Friday 17th October, fifteen carefully selected shops in Bath City Centre will be displaying their very own wacky wellies in their windows – each pair has been designed with a unique animal theme and it is now the public’s job to find them all to be in chance of winning a special prize!
Emily continues: “We hope that the public will now take part in the campaign by downloading our Wacky Welly Hunt sheets from the Ted’s Big Day Out website. Forms will also be available in all participating shops (if you can find them!). People will have until the day of Ted’s Big out – Friday 17th October 2014 – to find all 15 pairs of wellies, note down the participating shops and submit the form back to us – there will be a prize for the first person to return their form with the correct answers!”
Emma Savage, owner of the popular Grace & Ted boutique in Kingsmead Square, was the very first shop to join the Wacky Welly Hunt and after working hard on designing the boots, are now hoping to wow the public with their finished wacky wellies! Emma explains: “I remember taking part in Ted’s Big Day Out activities at school in Bath when I was tiny and they were always so much fun. It also made me aware of the incredible work The Forever Friends Appeal do in support of the RUH and it’s great that they organize a different event every year. We are so proud to be involved and hope to be a part of The Forever Friends Appeal’s fundraising for years to come!”
Photographs of all 15 pairs of wellington boots will also be available to view on The Forever Friends Appeal’s Facebook page –note that the other 14 locations will not be given away! – you can vote for the wackiest pair and there will be a secondary prize for the shop who is voted as having the most creative pair of wellies.
