Well done Ted’s Team RUH Runners

The Forever Friends Appeal would like to say a huge thank you and well done to all of the runners who took part in the Vitality Bath Half Marathon on Sunday 1st March. This year, an amazing 180 runners put on their trainers for Ted’s Team to help raise funds for the RoyalUnitedHospital. Among them were 15 incredible staff members who laced up their trainers and took on the 13.1 mile challenge to support their RUH, including teams from Waterhouse Ward and the Qulturum. Many ran for their own ward/department or the RUH Cancer Care Campaign, here’s why:

Louise Binnie, Qulturum Administrator (ran with Louise Binnie and Melanie Wenn from Qulturum):

“I had an operation on my right knee in April 2014 as a result of injuring my knee playing netball.  After a few months of recovery I made the decision to sign up for Bath Half, in the hope that my knee would be able to take on the challenge.  When the opportunity arose to be part of the Forever Friends Appeal team I jumped at the chance!  I have had friends and family affected by cancer over the years, so to help raise funds for the new Cancer Centre here is something very important to me.”

Mary Tedaldi, Healthcare Assistant on Waterhouse Ward:

“I entered the race this year as running is a passion of mine – I really do love it! I chose to raise money for the Forever Friends Appeal as it was the perfect opportunity to motivate me on those rainy training runs and at the same time support the Hospital that I am proud to work for.”

Julia Bennett, Occupational Therapist working on Acute Stroke Unit:

“I’m running the Bath half to raise funds for the build of the new Therapies Centre at the RUH. I had been debating for a while whether or not to run and doing it for this good cause, that will positively impact our patients and the staff, gave me no more excuses!”

Odette Smith, Bank Staff Nurse in A&E:

“I chose to run for the A&E department at the RUH, after having worked here on and off for over 30 years, l have seen the Hospital grow and flourish. The A&E department holds a very special place in my heart.”

Sarah Workman, Surgical Co-ordinator in Urology Outpatients

“I have always wanted to run the Bath Half and have been encouraged by friends and colleagues throughout my training – what better cause to run for than where I work!”

Carla Woodland, Senior Physiotherapist on OPU:

“I took part in the Bath Half this year to get fit after having two children, to get a sense of achievement and to raise funds for ACE OPU, where I work. Our patients deserve the best care we can give them.”

The Forever Friends Appeal wouldn’t be able to achieve their fundraising goals, without the support and dedication of the public and the inspirational staff members at the RUH– thank you. The Appeal are also excited to announce that they are Official Local Charity Partners for the very first 2015 Bristol + Bath Marathon in October! So if you’re ready to step up the pace and run city to city, sign up for one of their charity places today and support your RUH.
